A Chief Magistrate handling the alleged drug-related case involving a former Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Yahuza Musa, has withdrawn from the proceedings following an alleged threat to her life.
The magistrate, whose name was withheld, announced her recusal on Wednesday when the case came up for continuation of prosecution.
The prosecution was expected to call two additional witnesses at the sitting.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that three prosecution witnesses had earlier testified before the court on September 2, 2026, as the prosecution continued its case against the former council chairman.
According to reports, the magistrate’s decision to withdraw from the matter followed an allegation involving one of Musa’s biological sons.
The son was alleged to have visited the residential area of the magistrate and made enquiries from her children about the time their father normally returned home.
He was also allegedly said to have asked about the location of the magistrate’s parents’ residence and was accused of making a threat.
The allegations have not been established by a court, and it was not immediately clear whether the accused son had been formally charged over the alleged conduct.
Following the development, the magistrate forwarded the case file to the Chief Registrar, Malam Hussani Hassan, for reassignment to another court.
Musa was subsequently remanded at a correctional facility pending the reassignment of the case.
Sources familiar with the matter told SolaceBase that the Chief Registrar was in possession of the case file and was expected to forward it to the Chief Judge for further direction.
The case against Musa centres on allegations relating to the illegal sale and administration of fentanyl injections to young people.
The former council chairman was reportedly arrested in August by the Kano State Multi-Agency Committee on illicit drugs and related offences following an undercover operation.
The committee’s Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, had alleged that the investigation began after officials arrested a young man whose hand was said to have suffered severe deterioration following injections.
Rimingado reportedly said the young man identified Musa as the person from whom he obtained the substance, prompting the committee to conduct an undercover operation that culminated in Musa’s arrest.
The task force also alleged that Musa operated a medical facility that was not properly licensed and that he was unable to produce a valid nursing licence when requested.
Musa was subsequently charged under Section 249 of the Kano State Penal Code in connection with the alleged administration of harmful or intoxicating substances.
The allegations against Musa remain before the court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in accordance with the law.
The withdrawal of the magistrate means that the prosecution will have to continue before another court after the case is formally reassigned.
Further proceedings are expected to clarify the next stage of the prosecution and the response of the defence to the allegations.
