In a press conference held on Wednesday night at the African Hall of Kano State Government House, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, North West Nigeria, addressed the people of Kano following the recent judgment of the election petition tribunal that removed him from office and replaced him with the APC candidate, Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who contested in the March 18, 2023 election.

Governor Yusuf referred to the tribunal’s decision as a temporary setback and assured the citizens that he and his party, the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), would appeal against the ruling.

He emphasized that the court’s verdict would not deter his administration from continuing their developmental projects for the benefit of Kano’s residents.

Yusuf expressed optimism not only about winning the appeal but also about returning as the governor.

He urged the people of Kano to remain calm and law-abiding, discouraging any form of violence or taking the law into their own hands.

He stated, “This government will continue to work for the development of our State in-line with the promises we made while seeking for your votes.

We want to assure you that this will neither dampen our spirit nor slow us down as this is a temporary setback for our State which we will overcome by the grace of Almighty Allah (SWT).”

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf concluded by thanking the people of Kano for their continuous support and urged them to go about their businesses peacefully, with confidence that justice would prevail through the appellate courts.
