A 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukthar, has allegedly opened fire on guests at a wedding ceremony in Kano State, killing one person and injuring three others.
The incident occurred in Tudun Yola Quarters after Mukthar, who reportedly lives in the area, became angered by loud music from the wedding ceremony.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect allegedly came out of his residence and fired repeatedly at the wedding guests with a pump-action gun.
According to him, the police responded swiftly after receiving information about the attack and arrested Mukthar alongside another suspect.
Kiyawa said the firearm allegedly used in the incident was recovered from Mukthar.
He explained that preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect was angered because the organisers of the musical event allegedly failed to consult him before holding the ceremony.
The police spokesperson added that Mukthar reportedly told investigators that the noise from the event disturbed his sleep, prompting him to allegedly open fire on the gathering.
The shooting reportedly left one wedding guest dead, while three others sustained injuries.
Kiyawa said the two suspects were being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Kano State Police Command as detectives continued investigations into the incident.
The command said further developments would be made public as the investigation progresses.
