The management of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi State, has expelled two students over their alleged involvement in a same-sex relationship and rusticated four others for one academic session over a campus fight.
The disciplinary measures were approved at the university’s 31st Regular Senate Meeting following recommendations by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the institution’s Information and Protocol Unit.
According to the statement, the affected students have been formally notified through letters signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Eli Gbadafu.
The university said the sanctions were imposed in line with the provisions of its Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.
The expelled students were identified as Onumoko Hamza of the Department of Biology Education and Abdulazeez Eneji of the Department of Mining Engineering.
The institution stated that the duo was expelled over alleged involvement in what it described as “gay practice.”
Meanwhile, four other students were rusticated for one academic session over their involvement in a fight on campus.
They are Favor Akowe of the Department of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of the Department of Biology, Zainab Omayoza of the Department of Biochemistry, and Sukura Bukola, also of the Department of Biochemistry.
The university said the disciplinary actions reflected its resolve to uphold discipline and ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
“The University Management reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, order and a conducive environment for teaching and learning,” the statement read.
It warned that it would continue to sanction students found violating the institution’s rules and regulations.
The management also advised students to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook and conduct themselves in accordance with the university’s regulations.
