In a show of solidarity, thousands of Kogi youths, led by the Convener of Kogi New Generation (KNG), Mr Richard Otitoleke, and Mr Muhammad Shuaib, Director General of the Ododo/Joel Campaign Organization, visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

They hailed the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State as “the most peaceful and credible” and emphasized the need to protect the integrity of INEC.

The group, wielding placards, expressed appreciation for the collaboration between INEC and security agencies that contributed to the success of the election.

Otitoleke stressed the importance of approaching the Election Petition Tribunal for redress instead of inciting public unrest against INEC, asserting, “We have a responsibility to protect the integrity and credibility of a sensitive institution like INEC.”

Otitoleke further acknowledged the positive strides made by INEC in improving the electoral process through technological innovations.

He urged Nigerians to focus on responsible civic engagement and refrain from baseless accusations against the electoral body.

Muhammad echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that INEC had performed exceptionally well in Kogi.

He clarified that those accusing INEC were not representative of the Kogi populace and stated, “We are here to show our support for INEC.”

The Commission’s team, including National Commissioners Major General Abubakar Alkali (retd) and Mohammed Haruna, along with Secretary to the Commission Mrs Rose Orianran-Anthony, received the youth delegation. Major General Alkali commended the youths for their decorum and assured them that INEC remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy and conducting free and fair elections.

He emphasized, “INEC is not a political party. INEC has no particular candidate for any election. INEC is for Nigerians.” Alkali reaffirmed INEC’s dedication to operating within the confines of the Constitution and expressed the Commission’s determination to always do the right thing for the benefit of all Nigerians.
