The Labour Party National Working Committee, led by Bar. Julius Abure and Alh. Farouk Umar Ibrahim, issued a stern demand for the resignation of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over recent political maneuvers in Lagos State.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the conference, convened to address the controversial reinstatement of Mudasiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, saw the Labour Party accusing the ruling APC of orchestrating a “coup d’état” against democracy.
At the press briefing addressed by Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary, the party vehemently condemned what it described as a “shameful and unconstitutional overthrow” of Mojisola Meranda, highlighting allegations of corruption and misappropriation of state funds against Obasa.
“The APC administration under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated full compliance with Jason’s Law of Corruption,” Arabambi stated,referencing renowned columnist, Pini Jason’s theory on corruption.
The Labour Party asserted that the APC’s actions did not only undermine democratic principles but also institutionalized corruption within Lagos State.
The Labour Party asked Sanwo-Olu to address the allegations against Obasa transparently, threatening that failure to do so, would lead to calls for the governor’s resignation or initiation of impeachment proceedings.
The Labour Party also criticized what it termed as the APC’s manipulation of electoral processes, referencing the 2023 gubernatorial election where they alleged vote swapping to favour Governor Sanwo-Olu over Labour Party candidate Arc. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
Amidst these developments, the Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to contesting future elections in Lagos State, positioning Arc. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as it’s candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The party dismissed recent criticisms from Mr. Abdul-Azeez Adeniran Jandor, accusing him of attempting to disrupt their preparations for the upcoming elections.
Arabambi, urged the public to remain vigilant against what he termed as “desperate tactics” aimed at derailing their electoral ambitions.
The Labour Party vowed to uphold democratic values and accountability in Lagos State politics, promising to continue their fight against corruption and malfeasance.
