The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of being involved in organ trafficking, specifically in possession of what is believed to be human tongues.
The arrests occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation on Tuesday, October 15, at Otedola Bridge.
The suspects, identified as Isah Amohullahi, 30, and Abubakar Isah, 32, were apprehended while traveling in a taxi.
According to the police, further investigations led to the identification and arrest of a third suspect, Gbolahan Temidayo, who allegedly sold the human parts to Amohullahi and Isah. Temidayo was captured at Oyingbo Market in Lagos.
Lagos State Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrests in a statement, emphasizing the serious nature of the crime.
“Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested two suspects for being in possession of suspected human tongues in Lagos,” he said.
Hundeyin further stated that the investigation is ongoing at the Command headquarters, with plans to arraign the suspects if they are found culpable.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may be linked to organ trafficking and other criminal enterprises.
