The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State has handed down a double life sentence to 65-year-old landlord, Igwe Ambrose, for heinous sexual assault crimes against his tenant’s children.
The shocking incidents unfolded in Shagari Estate, Ipaja, between January and June 2021, leading to Ambrose being found guilty of inserting fingers into the private parts of the two victims, aged seven and 11.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency revealed the distressing details in a statement posted on Monday. Ambrose faced a four-count charge, including sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.
The court heard that the convicted landlord exploited the guise of assisting the young victims with their school assignments to perpetrate his vile acts.
Judge Abiola Soladoye, condemning Ambrose as a “dirty old man,” delivered a verdict that sent shockwaves through the community.
Each of the first two counts resulted in a life sentence for the offender, while the remaining counts earned him seven years in jail each.
In a move to safeguard the community, Ambrose’s name will now be recorded in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State.
This landmark ruling underscores the commitment of the legal system to protect the vulnerable and hold perpetrators of sexual violence accountable, sending a strong message that such reprehensible actions will not be tolerated within the society.
