The Nigeria Immigration Service has intercepted two persons in Adamawa State with N34 million in cash allegedly linked to a kidnapping syndicate.
The suspects were arrested while in possession of the money during an operation in the state, the Adamawa State Comptroller of Immigration, Sani Sule-Jega, disclosed on Wednesday.
Sule-Jega, who spoke at a media briefing in Yola, said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects claimed the money was meant to pay ransom for their abducted brother.
The Comptroller said the circumstances surrounding the cash and the suspects’ alleged connection to kidnapping were being investigated.
He added that the Comptroller-General of Immigration had directed that the suspects and the recovered cash be handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa Command of the NIS has intercepted 17 undocumented migrants during a separate operation at Rumde Baruw in Yola North Local Government Area.
The migrants were reportedly found at a private three-bedroom residence, a development the Immigration Service said reflected a changing pattern in the accommodation of irregular migrants in the state.
According to Sule-Jega, preliminary profiling showed that 13 of the migrants were Cameroonian nationals—eight males and five females—while the remaining four were Chadian nationals, all males.
The Comptroller said the increasing use of private and unregistered apartments by undocumented migrants, rather than conventional accommodation such as hotels, had become a concern to the service.
He said the command was consequently strengthening surveillance and intelligence-led operations to detect emerging patterns of irregular migration and address potential security threats.
Sule-Jega reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity, strengthening border security and improving migration management.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and maintaining peace across the state.
The suspects, migrants and other relevant exhibits were taken into custody as investigations continued in line with established procedures and applicable laws.
