It was a day of confusion and disappointment for Lawyers, litigants and other members of the public in Abia on Friday as members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, commenced another round of strike action.
Consequently, the enforcement team of JUSUN sealed Court complexes in the state.
This situation disrupted activities in the courts as many lawyers and their clients who came for court matters were locked out of the premises.
At the Abia State High Court Umuahia, DAILY POST saw some lawyers and their clients standing outside the court complex in disappointment.
Also, those who came to procure Court Affidavits for banking and travelling purposes were also disappointed as they were turned back.
Meanwhile, some suspected detainees who were supposed to be arraigned in courts by Nigeria Correctional Service could not also be arraigned.
Statements posted on the main gate of Abia State High Court Umuahia said the strike was approved by the National headquarters of JUSUN, in response to a request by the Abia State chapter of the union.
Also, another statement signed by Eze Chinedu, JUSUN Chairman Abia State and his Assistant Secretary, Chinedu Nwachukwu blamed the strike action on the alleged failure of the state government to give palliative rice, pay N15,000 wage award to JUSUN members and failure to accommodate JUSUN members in the old N30,000 minimum wage.
They also expressed anger over the non-payment of the gratuities of retired JUSUN staff among other reasons.
