The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State, on Thursday, inaugurated the Council of Muslim Titled Chiefs (COMTIC), aimed  towards unifying the Muslim Ummah in the state and strengthening Islamic leadership.

The historic event took place in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, and was graced by prominent Islamic scholars, leaders, and traditional Muslim titleholders.

Among those in attendance were the President General of the League, Shaykh Sikirullahi Babalola; the Grand Chief Imam of Egbaland, Shaykh Saadallahi Bangbola; the Grand Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Shaykh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo; and the Grand Chief Imam of Remoland, Shaykh Abdul Qadri Jinadu.

The Baba Adeen of Ogun State and Yorubaland, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, was also present alongside other eminent Muslim Titled Chiefs.

Delivering a keynote lecture, the Chief Imam of Gbaguraland, Emeritus Professor Shaykh Kamaldeen Balogun, emphasized the imperative for Muslim leaders to utilize their positions and influence not just for worldly affairs but in pursuit of eternal salvation (Al-Akhirah).

In his speech, Shaykh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo, who spoke on behalf of the League, explained that the Council of Muslim Titled Chiefs was established as an independent organ under the Raabittah (the League’s umbrella body) to serve the collective interest of Islam and Muslims in Ogun State.

He announced the appointment of Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola as the Chairman of the Council, while Dr. Rabiu Adeneye Kusimo was named as its Registrar and Secretary.

“The Council shall have regular meetings and interface with the leadership of the Raabittah when necessary to implement key decisions,” Ayanbadejo said.

He added “on behalf of the President General and other Grand Chief Imams, I hereby pronounce the Council inaugurated in the name of Almighty Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.”

A communiqué issued at the end of the strategic meeting identified major concerns facing Muslims in the state, including the absence of a united front and the marginalization of the Muslim community, describing them as “like orphans within the state.”

In response, the stakeholders resolved to forge stronger unity across tribal lines, enhance collaboration, and maintain regular engagements to promote the welfare of Muslims in Ogun State.

The communiqué, jointly signed by Imam Tajudeen Mustapha Adewunmi, Secretary General of the League of Imams and Alfas, and Ambassador Ishola, underscored the Council’s commitment to convene at least once every quarter.

The formation of COMTIC is widely seen as a bold move to realign the structure of Islamic leadership in Ogun State, ensuring better coordination, advocacy, and representation for Muslims across communities.
