Major Shake-up Rocks NNPCL As Top Executives Exit

A sweeping reorganisation has hit the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), resulting in the immediate exit of several top-ranking officials.

Among those affected are Bala Wunti, former Chief of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS); Ibrahim Onoja, Managing Director of the Kaduna Refinery; and Lawal Sade, the company’s Chief Compliance Officer and a former Managing Director of NNPC Trading.

The high-profile dismissals are said to be connected to ongoing internal restructuring at the state-owned oil firm.

Industry sources said that the executives were considered close allies of Mele Kyari, who was relieved of his duties as Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) on April 2, 2025.

In what appears to be the start of a broader overhaul, more than 200 staff members have reportedly been affected by the shake-up, fuelling speculations of further changes in the coming weeks.

The NNPCL has yet to release an official statement on the matter as at press time.

However, insiders describe the move as part of efforts to reposition the company and restore public confidence in its operations.
