The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a native doctor and a teenage girl, for their alleged involvement in the ritual killing of two siblings, Chizaram Onuche and Chidinma Onuche, in the Ogbodo Pipeline area of Rukpokwu, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
The victims, both seven years old, were reportedly drugged, raped, and murdered, with their blood drained for ritual purposes.
The suspects, identified as Aniekan Sunday Uko, Luis John Uwelemele, Kingsley Opurum, and Friday Silas, were apprehended following an investigation by the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
Confirming the arrests, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the investigation was launched after a report was transferred from the Special Area Division.
Law enforcement officers recovered key evidence, including a bottle containing the victims’ drained blood.
According to Linda Ojims, a lawyer assisting with the investigation, Uko, 27, allegedly lured the children to an uncompleted building while they were returning from church.
He reportedly drugged them before raping and murdering them.
“The children were coming back from church.
“The suspect, I don’t know whether he hypnotized or lured them, took them to an uncompleted building. He then induced the drink he gave to them. The children slept, he raped and murdered them,” Ojims said.
During police interrogation, Uko confessed that he was introduced to ritual killings by the native doctor, who had allegedly performed similar rituals for others in exchange for wealth.
The native doctor reportedly instructed him to provide fresh human remains and blood for ritual purposes.
SP Iringe-Koko disclosed that police operatives recovered several exhibits from the crime scene, including:
A kitchen knife identified as the murder weapon,a bottle filled with the victims’ blood, an empty can of Black Bullet energy drink, allegedly used to drug the children and a spoon used to collect the victims’ blood.
The victims’ remains have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured the public that justice would be served.
“Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details and possible accomplices. The safety and security of all citizens remain our top priority,” he said.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
