The Department of Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has led a wave of tributes celebrating the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ogun State Chapter, Dr Waheed Abiodun Ogunjobi, on his conferment of a doctorate degree by the Lagos State University.
The Head of the Department, Mass Communication, MAPOLY, Dr Wasiu Tejuoso, in a congratulatory message on behalf of the department’s students and staff, described Ogunjobi’s academic feat as a culmination of years of consistency, intellectual growth and academic prowess.
Ogunjobi was formally conferred with the PhD degree during the convocation of LASU on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Tejuoso, who addressed Ogunjobi as “Waheed Ogunjobi, Ph.D.”, said the department had followed his academic journey with confidence that he would eventually complete the programme successfully.
He recalled Ogunjobi’s antecedents as a student of MAPOLY, saying his academic progression over the years had demonstrated consistency and intellectual ability.
“We have no doubt when you started that with Allah’s grace, you will sure conclude it in flying colours. Your antecedents since you were a student in MAPoly showed consistency in your academic growth and prowess and we are so proud of your exploits,” Tejuoso said.
He prayed that Allah would put barakah in Ogunjobi’s latest achievement, grant him greater wisdom and enable him to continue to develop into a better version of himself.
The MAPOLY department’s tribute sets the tone for several other congratulatory messages from colleagues and associates who described Ogunjobi’s doctorate as more than a personal academic milestone.
The Ogun State chapter of the NIPR also celebrated its vice chairman, describing the achievement as remarkable and a reflection of his continued impact on the public relations profession and beyond.
The chapter expressed pride in Ogunjobi’s academic accomplishment and congratulated him on what it described as a demonstration of professional excellence.
A childhood friend of Ogunjobi, Rotimi Fapounda, an accountant with Nigerian Breweries and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, described the doctorate as the fulfilment of a long-standing ambition.
Fapounda said he had known Ogunjobi from childhood and recalled that the new doctorate holder once taught him English Language during his secondary school years.
He said Ogunjobi’s dexterity in writing and teaching at the time was so remarkable that it almost persuaded him to study Mass Communication.
According to him, Ogunjobi instead advised him to pursue Accounting, a counsel he followed until he became a chartered accountant.
Fapounda described Ogunjobi as “a born teacher” and prayed for good health and long life for him to continue serving as a source of blessing to the younger generation.
Also paying tribute, the Lead of GO Media Ideaz, Ganiyu Olowu, described Ogunjobi as a “quintessential professional”, deep thinker and passionate collaborator with extensive industry experience.
Olowu said the new doctorate was a fitting addition to a career and life marked by learning, professional practice and contribution.
He described Ogunjobi as dependable and intellectually grounded, adding that his thoughtful approach to professional engagements had enriched colleagues and associates.
“Some achievements deserve more than congratulations. They inspire us to reflect on the challenges of the moment and to keep our eyes firmly on the goal. This is one of such moments,” Olowu said.
He added that the degree was “well earned” and the recognition “well deserved”, particularly for those who knew the person behind the achievement.
