The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Remo,has called on the Federal Government to significantly enhance its efforts in addressing the escalating insecurity across the nation.
The Church at its 33rd Synod held at Agbowa, Sagamu, Ogun State and presided over by the Rt. Rev. J. M. Bamidele Ibikunle, condemned the violent activities of bandits, kidnappers, arsonists, and armed robbers that have plagued the country.
Speaking on the Synod’s theme, “Arise and Build,” inspired by Nehemiah 2:18, urged believers to overcome discouragement .
The Synod called for stringent measures against those responsible for recent attacks on public institutions, including banks, police stations, and transportation hubs.
It urged security agencies to collaborate more effectively to find lasting solutions to these security challenges.
Additionally, the Synod commended the Ogun State government for its efforts in addressing security issues within the state.
The Synod appreciated the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in tackling the nation’s multifaceted challenges.
However, it advised all levels of government to consider the grassroots impact of economic policies, emphasizing the need for visionary and focused leadership that prioritizes the welfare of citizens over personal gains.
Addressing the political climate, the Synod warned against the spread of inflammatory political rhetoric on social media, which can destabilize the polity.
It called for an accountable monitoring system to ensure responsible governance.
The Synod also highlighted the importance of youth empowerment, urging young Nigerians to harness their talents and actively participate in politics for national development.
The Synod expressed concern over the instability of the foreign exchange market and rising inflation, advocating for better management of foreign exchange policies to stabilize the local currency.
It welcomed the recent ban on financial transactions in foreign currencies within Nigeria.
In terms of health, the Synod stressed the importance of regular medical checkups to prevent rising health-related deaths.
It also addressed the pressing issue of domestic violence, urging victims to speak up and for society to adopt comprehensive measures to combat this problem.

The Synod also urged the government to take decisive steps in addressing climate change and mitigating its effects, such as flooding, which pose serious threats to lives and property.
The Synod called for measures to retain skilled citizens and create a conducive environment for them to contribute to national development.
The Synod appreciated the efforts of the Ogun State government, particularly Governor Dapo Abiodun, for the distribution of palliatives during economic hardships, ensuring support reached diverse communities within the state.
The Synod, prayers were offered for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as they approached their first anniversary in office.
The Synod prayed for divine guidance and wisdom for the nation’s leaders to navigate the current economic challenges.
The Synod was attended by distinguished religious leaders and eminent personalities, reflecting a strong commitment to fostering a united and progressive society. The Synod emphasized the church’s role in leading by example and being a beacon of hope in troubled times.
