As Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) prepares for its 16th Convocation Ceremony, the Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, is set to deliver the keynote lecture.
The lecture, titled “From Classroom to Cloud: Leveraging Digital Literacy for National Development,” is scheduled for Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the university’s Ijagun Main Campus in Ogun State.
Dr. Tijani, who has been a driving force in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy, will draw from his extensive background in technology and innovation to address how digital literacy can foster national growth.
His leadership and vision have significantly impacted both local and international technological initiatives, particularly through his work with Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), which he co-founded in 2010.
CcHUB has since become a catalyst for social innovation in Nigeria, contributing to the growth of Yaba as a major tech hub and initiating projects in fiscal transparency, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and education.
Tijani’s career spans decades of impactful work, beginning with roles at the International Trade Centre in Switzerland and Hewlett Packard, where he implemented digital projects in Nigeria, Kenya, and other African countries.
His contributions have included projects like Wecyclers, BudgIT, and LifeBank, which address challenges in waste management, financial transparency, and health services, respectively.
In addition to his achievements in the tech sector, Tijani has supported educational growth at TASUED. In 2019, TASUED partnered with CcHUB to establish an ICT-based incubator, the EDTECH Centre of Excellence, making it the first university in Nigeria to benefit from such an innovation.
This partnership highlights Tijani’s commitment to integrating technology into education to support Nigeria’s digital transformation.
Tijani, born in Ogun State, holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Jos and advanced degrees from Warwick Business School and the University of Leicester, where he earned a PhD in Innovation and Economic Development.
His insights are informed by further studies at Harvard and Stanford, underscoring his global perspective on technology’s role in development.
Beyond technology, Tijani contributes to food security initiatives in Ogun State, where he has integrated technological tools, such as drones, into farming practices to support the government’s anti-hunger campaign.
TASUED’s convocation ceremony will thus feature a leader with a profound influence on Nigeria’s digital and educational sectors, underscoring the potential of digital literacy in propelling national progress.
