Ministers, Lawmakers Can’t Access Tinubu on Food Crisis, Ndume Cries Out

Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is largely inaccessible to key government officials, including some of his ministers.

Ndume stated this  during an interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday.

Ndume expressed frustration over the federal government’s apparent inaction in addressing the severe food scarcity and escalating cost of living that are currently afflicting many Nigerians.

He noted that members of the National Assembly have been unable to meet with President Tinubu to discuss the critical issues affecting their constituencies.

“The major problem with this government is that its doors are closed, to the extent that even some ministers cannot see the president,” Ndume said.

“Not to mention members of the National Assembly who do not have the opportunity to meet with him and discuss the issues affecting their constituencies.”

The Borno senator  stressed   the urgency of federal intervention in the ongoing food crisis, warning that if left unaddressed, the situation could deteriorate further.

He called on the government to engage with experts and stakeholders to develop comprehensive solutions to the dual challenges of high living costs and food scarcity.

“We want to draw the government’s attention to the fact that Nigeria is not only facing a high cost of living but also food scarcity.

“We want the president to intervene on the issue of high cost of living and food scarcity.

“What we want the government to do is to sit with experts and other stakeholders to find a solution to the problem,” Ndume stressed.

Ndume, along with Senator Sunday Karimi of Kogi West, co-sponsored a motion on food security that was debated during a recent Senate plenary.

The Senate has urged the federal government to ensure food availability to prevent further hardship for citizens.

Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan also warned of potential mass protests if food prices continue to rise unchecked.
