The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja has found Ramat Mba, a mother of five, guilty of forging the signature of the late Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari.
The verdict, handed down by Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, followed a thorough prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Mba was convicted on counts of cheating and forgery, while being acquitted on one count related to felony.
Mba’s fraudulent activities, as revealed during the trial, involved the creation of forged documents on the letterhead of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, including Kyari’s signature.
The court heard how she duped unsuspecting individuals by promising them employment opportunities within government agencies like the Federal Inland Revenue Service, National Space Research and Development Agency, and the ICPC.
The prosecution, led by Mr. Hamza Sani, meticulously presented evidence detailing Mba’s deceitful practices, including an instance where she swindled a job seeker of N700,000 under the false pretense of securing employment at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA).
Justice Muhammad has ordered her remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till May 16,2024 .
