The Lagos District of The Companion, an association of Muslim professionals has  expressed profound grief over the demise of one of its esteemed leaders, Prof. Muhammad Olatunde Ya’qub.

Prof. Ya’qub, a distinguished scholar in Arabic linguistics and a Senior Lecturer at the Foreign Languages Department of Lagos State University, Ojo, passed away following Tawaf in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, last Sunday, March 24, 2024.

The statement, signed by Tajudeen Balogun, Head of the District’s Directorate of Public Affairs, conveyed the shock felt by The Companion at the tragic news while acknowledging Allah’s grace in allowing the late academic to lead a life dedicated to serving humanity and Islam.

Balogun emphasized Prof. Ya’qub’s legacy of humility, unwavering dedication to the path of Allah, and his instrumental role within the organization, including his leadership as the Noib Amir of the Lagos District from 2018 to 2022.

Additionally, he was honored for nurturing a devout Islamic family during his lifetime.

The Companion extended heartfelt condolences to Prof. Ya’qub’s wife, Prof. Jamilah Ya’qub, his immediate and extended family members, colleagues at LASU, the LASU Ummah, and fellow faithful both in Lagos State and beyond.

Prof. Ya’qub’s impact transcended his academic and professional achievements.

He co-founded the Alimosho Usrah zone, a vital part of the organization for over 12 years.

Following Islamic customs, Prof. Ya’qub was laid to rest in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

The statement concluded with prayers for Allah’s mercy upon the departed soul, granting him a place in Al-janah Fridaus, and providing solace to his bereaved loved ones.
