NAFDAC, PCN Direct Pharmaceutical Distributors To Halt Supply To Kano Market

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) have issued a directive to manufacturers, importers, medical representatives, and all distributors of pharmaceutical drugs, instructing them to cease the supply of medical products to patent medicine dealers operating in Niger Street and Sabon Gari Market, Kano State.

The joint statement, published on NAFDAC’s official platform, emphasized the need to curb the distribution of substandard and falsified medicines within the state.

The regulatory bodies issued a stern warning, indicating that companies failing to comply with the directive risk losing both their site license and product license.

“NAFDAC and PCN caution manufacturers, importers, medical representatives, and all distributors to immediately cease supplying pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and other regulated products to facilities and companies in Niger Street, Sabon Gari Market, or any other location outside the Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Dangwauro, Kano,” the statement read.

This directive follows a recent judgement from a Federal High Court on Friday, mandating medicine merchants to vacate Sabon Gari Market and relocate to the Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Dangwauro, Kano State.

The judgement dismissed the plea of the Nigerian Association of Patent Proprietary Medicine Dealers, who sought to resist their relocation from their registered business premises in Sabon Gari.

Justice Simon Amobeda, delivering the judgment, declared that the case lacked merit, asserting that the plaintiffs had no legal standing to challenge the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria’s authority to regulate their business and enforce relocation.
