NAFDAC Uncovers Fake Alcohol Factory in Lagos, Seizes Products Worth N2bn

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and dismantled an illegal factory involved in the production and packaging of counterfeit alcoholic beverages at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State.

NAFDAC disclosed this during a raid on Thursday, where over 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials for unapproved alcoholic products were confiscated.

The items, valued at approximately N2 billion, were being used to produce hazardous beverages that posed serious health risks.

“These items were being used to produce unapproved and hazardous alcoholic products,” the agency stated.

The agency warned consumers about the severe health risks associated with counterfeit alcohol, including the potential for poisoning and organ damage.

It urged the public to only purchase alcoholic beverages from trusted vendors to avoid falling victim to harmful counterfeit products.

NAFDAC further called on Nigerians to report any suspicious activities related to the production or sale of fake alcoholic beverages to its nearest office, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding public health.

This development underscores the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of substandard and falsified products in Nigeria, as it continues to prioritize the safety of consumers across the country.
