… Destroys Over 11 Tonnes of Cannabis in Ogun and Edo Forests

    Daud Olatunji

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides, culminating in the arrest of a 67-year-old trafficker and the disruption of international drug smuggling attempts.

Furthermore, NDLEA’s relentless efforts led to the eradication of over 11 tonnes of cannabis in the forests of Ogun and Edo states.

Chukwuemeka Clement, the 67-year-old trafficker, was apprehended at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja for ingesting 100 wraps of cocaine.

He confessed to his involvement in the criminal enterprise, citing his desire to raise funds for a fresh start in life after spending three decades abroad.

In a separate operation, a woman bound for Saudi Arabia was intercepted at Kano airport with 52 pellets of cocaine concealed within her.

She led NDLEA officers to a stash house in Kano, resulting in the recovery of 767 grams of cocaine.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives, aided by the Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Corps, and Amotekun personnel, successfully located and destroyed a massive 10.38 tonnes of cannabis sativa in Ogun state.

This operation covered over 4.152 hectares and led to the arrest of suspects in possession of additional illicit substances.

Additional drug-related incidents were also reported in Gombe and Oyo states, where suspects were apprehended with tramadol capsules and compressed cannabis sativa.

NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and its associated criminal activities is evident in these recent operations, showcasing the agency’s determination to secure the nation and protect its citizens from the scourge of narcotics.
