The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a woman, identified as Aisha Isah, with 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition during a patrol operation along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
The suspect was reportedly intercepted at the expressway toll gate on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while allegedly transporting the ammunition.
The NDLEA disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in Abuja.
According to the agency, Isah, an indigene of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested following an operation by its personnel deployed along the busy highway.
The agency, however, did not disclose the intended destination of the ammunition or the circumstances surrounding its transportation.
In a related operation, NDLEA operatives arrested a 68-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Egwolonwu, along the Zaria-Kano Expressway.
Egwolonwu was reportedly apprehended at Gwargwaje, Zaria, Kaduna State, with a large consignment of controlled pharmaceutical substances.
The seized items included 2,770 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 100 ampoules of diazepam injection, 11,000 tablets of diazepam and 4,500 tablets of Exol-5.
The latest arrests underscore the agency’s ongoing enforcement operations along major highways, where it has continued to intercept suspected traffickers and consignments of illicit substances.
However, the NDLEA statement did not provide further details on the suspects’ intended destinations, the source of the recovered items or whether investigations had established any links to wider criminal networks.
The agency is expected to conduct further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the seizures and establish possible offences against the suspects.
