NDLEA Busts Drug-Laced Snack Ring in Bayelsa, Unveils Nationwide Operations

In a major crackdown on drug-related activities, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 20-year-old hair stylist, Josephine Odunu, and a 30-year-old dispatch rider, Edesemi Ikporo, for peddling illicit drug-laced chin-chin to students and partygoers in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the agency’s operatives intercepted Edesemi on Sunday, March 10, in the Opolo area of Yenagoa, seizing 200 grams of cannabis-laced chin-chin.

This led to the subsequent arrest of Josephine, who operated from a salon in the Kpansia area.

A search of the salon revealed an additional 3.00kg of the drugged snack, bringing the total seizure to 3.2kg.

Further investigations uncovered the duo’s network, which distributed cannabis and tramadol-laced snacks at social gatherings and among students.

While Edesemi handled deliveries, Josephine acted as a key distributor to a wanted suspect involved in producing the illicit snacks.

In parallel operations across Nigeria, the NDLEA reported significant arrests and seizures.

In Adamawa State, wanted suspects Ajim Samuel and Davidson Joshua were apprehended while transporting 14,428 pills of tramadol from Onitsha, Anambra State.

Similarly, in Osun State, a commercial bus driver, Ogunleye Adegoke, was caught with a cache of tramadol, Rohypnol tablets, and codeine syrup concealed in his vehicle.

Meanwhile, the agency seized a staggering 343,000 opioid pills from Lawan Abubakar in Bauchi State and intercepted large quantities of cannabis in Sagamu, Ogun State, and Kano.

In Nasarawa State, a warehouse was found to contain 118 kilograms of cannabis, while in Edo State, Kole Samuel was arrested with 75kg of the psychoactive substance.

In a decisive move, NDLEA operatives also destroyed nearly 4,000 kilograms of cannabis in the Oloma-Okpe forest of Akoko Edo LGA, highlighting the agency’s multifaceted approach to combating drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
