Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted three trailer loads of opioids, comprising 3,450,000 pills and 344,000 bottles of codeine syrup, at Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State on Thursday.

The NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed this in a statement on Sunday, highlighting the seizure as a major blow to drug trafficking syndicates operating within the country.

The multi-billion naira consignments were discovered loaded into two 40-ft container trucks and another 20-ft truck at the AML bonded terminal, Abule-Osun, near the International Trade Fair complex.

The trucks were en route to a large warehouse at Abule-Ado when NDLEA officers intercepted them and apprehended the suspects.

Among those arrested are Cosmas Obiajulu, 51, the warehouse agent, Ridwan Balogun, 25, and Banjo Tayo, 30, both drivers of two of the trucks.

However, the third driver managed to evade arrest by fleeing the scene.

The statement further disclosed that the agency’s operations extended beyond Lagos, with notable arrests in Ekiti and Benue States.

In Ekiti State, Jibril Audu, a 75-year-old, was apprehended with 7.5 kilograms of cannabis during a raid operation at Oke-asa village, Ijero-Ekiti.

Similarly, in Benue State, Tikwase Nytor, a 70-year-old grandmother, was nabbed with 15.6 kilograms of the same substance during a raid operation at Achusa and International Market Road, Makurdi.
