Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested three persons with disabilities for alleged drug trafficking and uncovered illicit substances valued at over N5.8bn in coordinated operations across several states.
The agency disclosed on Sunday that the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led raids in Anambra and Kwara states, while a major drug haul was also recorded in Lagos.
According to a statement by the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, a 60-year-old suspect, Romanus Nwabara, was arrested on May 6, 2026, at Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, where he was found in possession of 250 grammes of skunk packaged in retail sachets.
In a separate operation in Ogbunike, also in Anambra State, NDLEA operatives arrested another suspect, Amos Kenneth, 25, with 160.3 grammes of Tramadol (225mg and 100mg), 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grammes of Exol-5 and 176.93 grammes of skunk.
Similarly, in Kwara State, a third suspect identified as Usman Salisu was intercepted during a patrol along Bode Saadu on May 8. He was found with 6.3 kilogrammes of skunk concealed in a school bag aboard a commercial vehicle.
In a major breakthrough, Babafemi said operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit raided a mansion in Lekki, Lagos, used as a drug stash house, recovering 4,000 parcels of “Loud”, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of N5.815bn.
He added that two Mercedes-Benz buses and packaging materials were also recovered from the property located in Lekki Phase 1.
The anti-narcotics agency also recorded arrests and seizures in other parts of the country. In Nasarawa State, a suspect, Emmanuel Osita Okeke, was apprehended with 129kg of skunk in the Nyanya-Karu area.
Likewise, along the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State, operatives intercepted a commuter bus heading to Abuja and recovered 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766kg. Three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond and Babangida Musa — were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In another operation in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos, NDLEA officers uncovered a makeshift factory producing “skuchies”, a cocktail of cannabis and other substances. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested while allegedly processing the illicit mixture. About 270 litres of the substance and 106 grammes of Tramadol were recovered.
Babafemi said the agency had sustained its War Against Drug Abuse campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools, communities and workplaces nationwide.
He reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to intensifying enforcement operations and public enlightenment to curb drug abuse and trafficking across the country.
