Nigerian entrepreneur and digital inclusion advocate, David Onilude, has been awarded the globally renowned Diana Award, an accolade recognizing exceptional young leaders for their social action and humanitarian work.

The 23-year-old founder of Tech Now Global joins an elite group of changemakers celebrated for their contributions to community development and innovation.

The Diana Award, named in honour of the late Princess Diana, is awarded annually to individuals aged 9-25 who demonstrate outstanding commitment to social and humanitarian causes.

Marking its 25th anniversary this year, Kensington Palace praised recipients for their dedication to inspiring change and uplifting communities.

In a statement, the Palace noted: “The Diana Award celebrates exceptional young entrepreneurs who embody Princess Diana’s spirit of compassion, kindness, and entrepreneurship.

“As we honour the legacy of The Princess, we aim to inspire a new generation of leaders to make a positive impact in their communities.”

… A Journey of Resilience and Vision

David Onilude’s journey to global recognition is rooted in his humble beginnings in Badagry, Lagos State.

Born to missionary parents, Tunji and Bunmi Onilude, who are alumni of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, David’s early life was marked by financial struggles.

Yet, his passion for technology, nurtured by his mother’s computer science background, became his escape and inspiration.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, David began teaching digital skills to peers using his mother’s old laptop.

His commitment earned him a grant from an international organization, which enabled him to organize workshops across Lagos State.

His efforts soon caught the attention of the Lagos State Government, which sponsored him for a leadership program in Finland.

… Tech Now Global: Bridging the Digital Divide

David is the founder of Tech Now Global, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving digital literacy and education in underserved communities across Nigeria.

The organization, now operating in over 32 communities and 102 schools across Africa, equips young people with critical 21st-century skills through bootcamps, workshops, and training sessions.

“Our mission is to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities through technology,” David said.

“I believe that exposing young people to digital opportunities can transform their lives and enable them to actively participate in the global economy.”

Tech Now Global’s impact extends beyond training, as it inspires beneficiaries to launch their own initiatives, creating a ripple effect of changemaking.

    Other Accomplishments

David is also the co-founder of Beere Software, where he develops solutions that empower businesses and individuals through technology. His contributions to digital literacy and entrepreneurship have earned him accolades, including:

… The Diana Award: A Milestone Achievement

Reflecting on receiving the Diana Award, David expressed his gratitude and determination:

“This recognition means the world to me. Growing up in a rural community, I faced many challenges, but they fueled my desire to succeed and make a difference.

“This award is a testament to what young people can achieve with passion and resilience.”
