Nigerian Troops Deal Major Blow to Terrorists: 213 Killed, 283 Captured

In a significant victory against insurgency, Nigerian troops have delivered a devastating blow to terrorist groups, with 213 militants eliminated and 283 others apprehended across various conflict zones in the nation.

Additionally, 472 fighters and their families chose to surrender, marking a significant shift in the ongoing conflict.

According to Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the operations conducted by the armed forces also led to the rescue of 26 kidnapped hostages and the arrest of 67 individuals involved in oil theft.

The week-long offensive saw the recovery of an arsenal of weapons, including 111 AK47 rifles, a G3 rifle, 31 locally fabricated guns, and various ammunition.

Among the seized items were 2,766 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 982 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and a cache of explosives.

In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai eliminated 70 terrorists, arrested 23 BH/ISWAP militants, and seized a significant number of weapons and motorcycles.

Notably, 472 ISWAP/JAS fighters, along with their families, surrendered to the military within the theatre of operations.

Meanwhile, in the North Central and North West regions, operations Safe Haven, Whirl Stroke, and Hadarin Daji saw the neutralization of insurgents and the rescue of kidnapped hostages.

The air component also played a crucial role in targeting terrorist enclaves and destroying their logistics.

In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe dismantled 45 illegal refining sites and recovered a substantial amount of stolen crude oil and refined products.

Similarly, in the South East, Operation UDO KA dealt a heavy blow to terrorists, neutralizing 26 militants and seizing a cache of weapons.

“All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authority for further action,” emphasized Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba.

The latest offensive underscores the determination of Nigerian security forces to eradicate terrorism and restore peace and stability to the region.
