The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Council is mourning the death of its former Internal Auditor, Mr Walter Ukaegbu, aged 67, after a protracted illness.
Ukaegbu, who covered business and maritime/transport/aviation beats for several years in various national newspapers and worked for Sun Newspapers before his death, died on August 29, 2024.
He hailed from Amokwe Item in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a tribute to the deceased by the NUJ, Ukaegbu was hailed as a loving father, doting comrade, inspiring professional and a worthy example to his community.
The tribute which was signed by the Secretary of FCT Council of NUJ, Ochiaka Ugwu, and sent to Ukaegbu’s family, said ”while the death “leaves pain and sorrow, we, however, urge you to take solace in the fact that Walter Ukaegbu lived well as a devoted husband, caring and loving father, doting comrade, inspiring professional and a worthy example to his community.
“More than these, it is a thing of joy that he was a passionate Christian who held unto Jesus Christ and as a community leader he demonstrated great commitment to the service of people and country.”
According to a funeral programme released by his family, a Service of Songs in Ukaegbu’s memory will hold on November 8, 2024 at Christ Methodist Cathedral, Nyanya in Abuja, while his remains will be interred at his country home in Amokai in Amokwe Item, Abia State on November 15, 2024.
He is survived by Dr (Mrs) Ifeyinwa Ukaegbu, Wife, Jesse Chidubem Ukaegbu Son; Favour Amarachukwu Ukaegbu, Daughter; and extended family members.
