Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday advised the newly installed Odemo of Isara Remo, Oba Peter Oluwole Ogunbayo, to prioritise unity and people-centred development as he begins his reign.
They gave the charge during the monarch’s installation as the 38th Odemo of Isara Remo, held at AUD Primary School, where the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, presented the staff of office.
The ceremony drew traditional rulers, political office holders and community leaders from within and outside Remoland, in what observers described as a symbolic gathering of stakeholders keen on a fresh start for the town.
Speaking, Obasanjo underscored the need for the new monarch to focus on restoring harmony and improving the welfare of his people, noting that the true test of leadership lies in service and impact.
“The essence of kingship is to put everything in order. We expect that your reign will bring greater progress and stability to Isara Remo,” he said.
In his remarks, Abiodun described the installation as a defining moment for the community, particularly following what he called a peaceful and mature selection process.
The governor urged the monarch to build bridges across divides and promote fairness, stressing that inclusive leadership would accelerate development in the town.
“You must be a father to all, irrespective of differences, and ensure justice and equity in your domain,” he said.
Also speaking, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, called on the new Odemo to embrace reconciliation, urging him to work with former contenders and other stakeholders to foster unity.
“Development thrives in an atmosphere of peace. You must carry everyone along,” he advised
