Former President Olusegun Obasanjo engaged in a closed-door meeting with key Ohanaeze chieftains on Friday, addressing matters of shared concern and significance.

The rendezvous took place at the residence of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary General, Okey Emuchay, disclosed to the media that the meeting was symbolically important, emphasizing that fruitful discussions transpired during the closed session.

While specifics of the discussions were not disclosed by Emuchay, he conveyed that “issues of mutual interest” were on the agenda.

During the courtesy visit, Emuchay stated, “The Ohanaeze PG informed Chief Obasanjo that Nigeria should erect monuments in his name for the sacrifices he has made.”

Highlighting Obasanjo’s contributions, Iwuanyanwu recalled the former President’s role in ending the civil war with the mantra of “no victor, no vanquished,” as well as his efforts in repaying substantial external debts and revitalizing the economy during his presidency.

Acknowledging Obasanjo’s merits, Iwuanyanwu conveyed that the Igbo nation plans to bestow appropriate honors upon him.

The former President was accompanied by Chief Oyewole Fasawe, and other attendees included Igbo leaders and Ohanaeze chieftains such as Okey Emuchay, Kema Chikwe, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Fidelis Ozichukwu, and Chief Tony Ukasanya.

Iwuanyanwu, known for championing the cause of Ndigbo, has been actively advocating for the development of the South East as a major industrial hub in the West African sub-region. He continues to urge Ndigbo to invest in their homeland, emphasizing regional growth and prosperity.
