Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, have thrown their support behind the creation of the new Ibara GRA Regeneration Scheme.

The support came  despite controversies surrounding the eviction of current residents to pave the way for the construction.

Obasanjo voiced his endorsement during an advocacy session organized by the Ministry of Housing, led by Commissioner Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, at the Olowu palace in Oke-Ago Owu, Abeokuta.

Reflecting on the history of the old Ibara GRA, he lamented its outdated infrastructure and urged the state government to prioritize urban renewal.

He further emphasized the need for balanced development across Abeokuta and the entire state, calling for upgraded road networks to complement the GRA project.

Expressing gratitude for the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state, the Olowu pledged his unwavering support for the project, highlighting its significance during his reign.

Commissioner Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi reiterated that the objective of the new Ibara GRA is to catalyze total transformation and enhance the economic value of the state.

Representatives from the Traditional Council, including Chief Ogo Oluwa Bankole and Chief Michael Ogunseye of Owu Heritage UK, commended the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun for initiating the scheme while urging transparency in its execution.
