Obasanjo Scolds Oyo Monarchs For Not Standing For Him

Former Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday, commanded  Oyo monarchs to stand up  during the inauguration of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources in Iseyin.

As a guest of Governor Seyi Makinde, Obasanjo was also tasked with commissioning the newly rebuilt Oyo-Iseyin Road.

However, it was during the ceremony that his no-nonsense demeanor came to the forefront.

Standing at the podium, Obasanjo couldn’t help but notice that the kings did not rise when he was introduced.

Unwilling to tolerate what he perceived as disrespect, he sternly reprimanded the monarchs, insisting that they should have shown proper deference by standing in the presence of a former president.

In no uncertain terms, he ordered them to stand. Like obedient pupils responding to their headmaster’s command, all the kings promptly rose to their feet, their regal attire contrasting with the unusual spectacle.

The irony lay in the fact that Obasanjo had long relinquished the presidency, with his two terms coming to an end in May 2007.

Nonetheless, his authoritative stance left a lasting impression, underscoring the enduring influence of the former leader on the political stage
