The De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, a socio-cultural organization of Lagos State indigenes, has condemned the reinstatement of Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, describing the development as a “show of shame.”
Obasa, who was impeached on January 13, 2025, over allegations of corruption and abuse of office, was reinstated on Monday, March 3, 2025, in a move that has sparked outrage among stakeholders.
In a press statement signed by its Media Office, the Foundation expressed shock over the Assembly’s decision, declaring that the legislative body had turned into an “amusement park” and a “monument of shame.”
“The Lagos State House of Assembly is an amusement park that will go down in history as a monument of shame. Waterloo awaits the occupants. History will repeat itself,” the statement read.
The group further criticized the lawmakers and the state government for what it described as an embarrassing and disgraceful act, asserting that their actions had undermined public trust in governance.
“The Governor and House members lost the best opportunity to assert their powers and authority to free themselves from the shackles of the Emperor of Bourdillon,” the Foundation stated, in an apparent reference to political influences controlling the state’s affairs.
Accusing the Assembly of prioritizing political interests over accountability, the group warned that justice would ultimately prevail.
“No matter how they calibrate their shenanigans, the river must definitely flow into the ocean,” it added.
