The Wife of Delta State Governor, Dcn Tobore Oborevwori, and the Commissioner for women’s Affairs, community, and social Development, Hon. Princess Pat Ajudua has thrown weight behind the eradication of all forms of abuses, against women, children, and girls in the society.
The duo makes the call at the commemoration of the 2023 16 days of activism against gender-based violence theme: “Accelerating action to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide: Leaving no one Behind at Asaba, the state capital.
Speaking at the occasion, the wife of the state governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori who was ably represented by the wife of the deputy speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, chief (Barr) Mrs. Ifeoma Akpowhowo said the goal of the symposium is to leave no one behind and collectively invest in the prevention and elimination of all forms of base abuses against women, children girl.
The Governor’s wife noted that the journey to eliminate gender-based violence is not just a concern for women, but a societal issue that needs active involvement of every stakeholder in the state.
Oborevwori disclosed that her pet project is committed to eliminating all forms of gender-based violence in the state, saying that one of her missions is in line with the goal of the 16 days of activism, which she said is to create a world where no one lives fearing violence of gender.
Tobore also revealed that her pet project is investing in education, which is a powerful tool in preventing violence in our society.
Dcn. Tobore called on community leaders, elders, and parents to promote a culture of respect, equality, and concept to young ones that it is a basic strategy to build a foundation for a society that rejects violence in all forms.
Dcn Oborevwori also called on deltans to support the Governor’s MORE Agenda which aims to create a safer and more equitable future for all.
Also, in her welcome address, the Hon Commissioner for Women Affairs, community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua said the 16 Days Activism against gender-based violence, which is a global campaign for the elimination of gender-based violence annually held from the 25 of November to 10 of December every year
Ajudua said the global campaign to unite, Invest, and prevent violence against women and girls is a clarion call on all stakeholders to mount pressure aimed at raising awareness on the negative impact of violence and abuse against women a girls and influencing behavioral changes towards these harmful practices
The commissioner noted that more action is needed to ensure women, in all spheres of life, live free of violence of any form. We need a more cohesive effort in addressing sexual and gender-based violence, and these interventions must be grounded in a survivor-centered approach.
Hon. Princess commended the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, for being the Vanguard of this move of eradication of SGBV and galvanizing all the Stakeholders, including international and Development Partners.
Ajudia added that the commitment has led to the establishment of a National Dashboard that gives a continuous and on-the-spot report of issues of SGBV.
Hon. Ajudua noted that stakeholders in Delta State have been trained by the Federal team on the use of the Dashboard, and this will enable them to impute reports from the state.
Hon. Princess Ajudua also revealed that Delta State is committed to the fight as demonstrated by the No.1 Champion against SGAV.
