Former governorship aspirants in Ogin State, Prof. Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, has declared her support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in the state, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 election, directing her supporters to mobilise for his victory.
Iyabo Obasanjo, a former Senator, made the commitment during a strategic meeting with Yayi at the Olusegun Osoba Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, where both political figures discussed party unity, reconciliation and consolidation of support following the emergence of Yayi as the APC consensus flag bearer.
The engagement, described as part of ongoing internal consultations within the party, is aimed at strengthening cohesion among stakeholders who previously indicated interest in the governorship race before the adoption of a consensus arrangement.
Yayi, in his remarks, appreciated Iyabo Obasanjo for her early goodwill and political support, describing her backing as significant to the success of his campaign and broader electoral strategy.
He assured that his administration, if elected, would remain open to contributions from all stakeholders, stressing that inclusiveness and unity would define his approach to governance and party relations.
“I want to assure you that I am here as a son of the family. We will work together,” Yayi said.
“Immediately after my emergence, you congratulated me and I was truly excited. I am ready to align with your vision. Your manifesto and political direction will be part of our broader agenda.
“At any given opportunity, I will be available. One, two or three persons from your team will also be integrated into my campaign structure. Nobody will be left behind,” he added.
He further emphasised that consolidating unity within the APC remained central to his political strategy ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In her response, Iyabo Obasanjo said she had already instructed her supporters to work for the success of Yayi’s governorship ambition, pledging structured mobilisation in his favour across political blocs aligned to her network.
“I have already instructed my supporters to work for the success of the APC governorship candidate, Adeola. We will support him fully and ensure mobilisation for his victory,” she said.
