The Ogun State chapters of the Young Progressives Party and Boot Party have rejected claims that they had withdrawn or discontinued legal actions challenging the eligibility and state-of-origin claims surrounding the 2027 governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The parties described as misleading a recent media report suggesting that major court cases against the All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant had been dropped, insisting that neither of their state chairmen authorised the withdrawal or discontinuance of the suits.
The YPP and Boot Party made their position known at a joint press conference in Ogun State on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The statement was read by the YPP State Chairman, Hon. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifinmi, alongside the Boot Party State Chairman, Arch. Akerele Abiodun John.
The controversy followed a statement reportedly issued by Adeola’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, titled, “Ogun 2027: Major Coirt Cases Against Sen. Adeola, Yayi Candidacy Dropped.”
The two parties, however, said they were neither consulted nor informed before the purported discontinuance was made public.
“For the avoidance of doubt, neither of us, Arch. Akerele Abiodun John nor Hon. Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifinmi, authorised anyone to withdraw, compromise or discontinue our legal challenges without our express knowledge and consent,” the parties said.
They argued that where a legal proceeding involves multiple plaintiffs or parties with interconnected interests, all affected parties ought to be properly consulted before any decision is taken concerning the matter.
The parties further rejected any impression that they had become satisfied with Adeola’s candidacy or abandoned their objections following the reported discontinuance.
They said their concerns were not borne out of personal animosity or political vendetta against the senator but were based on questions bordering on eligibility, constitutional requirements, state of origin and qualification to participate in the 2027 governorship election.
According to them, such issues should be determined through the appropriate judicial and constitutional processes rather than political statements or media pronouncements.
The parties maintained that the status of any pending suit could only be properly determined through the court and relevant legal procedures.
They said, “The matter should be allowed to follow due judicial and constitutional processes. Nigeria operates a constitutional democracy and nobody should be denied the opportunity to seek judicial determination of a legitimate grievance.”
The YPP and Boot Party also raised concerns over what they described as alleged intimidation, threats and surveillance involving individuals connected with the legal proceedings.
They called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his capacity as President of Nigeria and leader of the APC, to caution Adeola and his associates against any alleged attempt to deploy political influence, intimidation, misinformation or undue pressure against individuals pursuing the matter through lawful means.
They also appealed to Adeola, Abayomi Arabambi, Awolola Awoniyi and others they said were associated with the matter to refrain from any action capable of threatening, intimidating, harassing or compromising the safety of persons connected with the proceedings.
The parties said they had reported their concerns to the appropriate security authorities and requested investigations into the circumstances surrounding what they described as an alleged attempt to withdraw or compromise the proceedings.
They also urged security agencies to investigate their separate concerns over alleged threats and intimidation.
Reaffirming their position, the YPP and Boot Party said they had neither withdrawn their concerns nor authorised anybody to compromise their interests.
They also stressed that neither Adeola’s media team nor any other person had been authorised to speak on their behalf concerning the legal challenge.
The parties consequently urged members of the public, political parties and other stakeholders to be cautious about reports suggesting that all legal challenges to Adeola’s 2027 governorship ambition had been voluntarily and unanimously abandoned.
They called on all parties to allow the courts to determine the issues in accordance with the Constitution and other relevant laws.
The parties said the 2027 governorship election should ultimately be about the people of Ogun State, their aspirations and their constitutional right to freely choose their leaders.
They further appealed to relevant authorities to ensure that no citizen or political actor was intimidated, harassed or prevented from pursuing a legitimate case before the courts.
The YPP and Boot Party reaffirmed their commitment to peace, democracy, justice and the rule of law, declaring that they would continue to pursue every legitimate avenue available to them under Nigerian law.
