Operators of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Ogun State have been urged to capitalize on the various initiatives implemented by the current administration aimed at enhancing business growth.

Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, made this call during a hybrid stakeholders’ engagement meeting with MSME operators and Business Membership Organisations (BMOs) at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, and via a digital platform.

Mr. Sofela emphasized that the administration under Prince Dapo Abiodun has introduced strategic reforms and initiatives designed to streamline business processes, reduce costs and time, and foster a business-friendly environment.

He said the  efforts are intended to increase private sector investments and support business expansion within the state.

“Incentives and the automation of business registration processes are among the measures taken to create an enabling environment for businesses,” Mr. Sofela stated.

He further highlighted the government’s efforts to promote digital literacy and the adoption of e-commerce platforms.

Partnerships with technological companies have been established to provide entrepreneurs with affordable digital tools and training, ensuring that MSME operators in Ogun State remain competitive.

The Commissioner noted significant investments in the development of industrial parks, business hubs, and economic zones, including the Small Scale Industries Land Acquisition Scheme (SILAS) in Ijebu Isiwo, which is set to serve as a catalyst for business growth.

“We have introduced various funding windows like the Ogun SME Financial Empowerment Scheme to address the challenges of financing and high operational costs faced by entrepreneurs.

“Our commitment is to enhance the capacity of our MSMEs through improved skills and knowledge in business management, financial planning, and marketing,” Mr. Sofela added.

Dr. Olu Ola Aikulola, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, commended stakeholders for their collaboration and urged continued cooperation to achieve the administration’s goals.

“The Prince Abiodun-led government has many promising initiatives, and we expect you to take full advantage of them,” he said.

Dr. Femi Egbesola, National President of the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON), praised Mr. Sofela as an SME-friendly Commissioner and assured the government of the association’s support.

The meeting saw attendance from representatives of key organisations, including the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Ogun State Signage Agency (OGSAA), Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), and various business and artisan associations.
