The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has called on engineers across Nigeria to unite under a shared purpose and set aside religious, ethnic, and regional differences.
She emphasized the importance of engineers engaging in active politics to contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele made these remarks during her address at the inauguration of the 31st Engineering Assembly organized by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in Abuja.
The event’s theme, ‘Entrenching and Strengthening Engineering Practitioners: Code of Conduct for Resilient Engineering Practice in Nigeria,’ provided a platform for discussing the role of engineers in the country’s progress.
Highlighting the significance of solidarity among engineers, Engr. Salako-Oyedele emphasized that by presenting a unified front, they could transcend the divisive landscape of politics.
She called on engineers to uphold values such as inclusivity, tolerance, and understanding as they pursue their profession.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele stated, “I firmly believe that engineers possess unique skills, perspectives, and expertise that can drive remarkable progress in our nation’s development.
Through active participation in politics, engineers can secure elected positions and play pivotal roles in government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
This will enable us to leverage our proficiencies in shaping policies, regulations, and projects that foster socio-economic growth and nation-building.”
Encouraging engineers to assert their voices and take proactive measures towards positioning engineering at the forefront of the nation’s development agenda, the Deputy Governor acknowledged the significant efforts of COREN President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Abubakar, and the entire council in making the annual assembly a reality.
As engineers are prompted to unite and contribute actively to political spheres, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele’s call resonates as a driving force for the engineering community to take on a more impactful role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
