Ad hoc staff who worked for the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) during the November 16 local government elections have decried the non-payment of their allowances, three weeks after the polls.
The affected workers, estimated to number around 5,000, expressed frustration over the delay, stating that no reason has been provided for the non-payment.
Several of the workers, who reached out to PLATFORM TIMES on Sunday, revealed that despite fulfilling their duties during the elections, they have yet to receive their promised remuneration.
One of the workers said, “OGSIEC has all our details, and they made repeated promises that the allowances would be paid. It’s disappointing that three weeks have gone by, and we are still waiting.”
In an effort to demand accountability, some of the ad hoc staff have created a group advocating for the payment of their allowances.
The group, which currently includes over 69 members, serves as a platform to collectively voice their grievances.
The local government elections, held across all local government areas in Ogun State, saw the electorate voting for 20 chairmen and 236 councillors.
Despite the electoral commission’s extensive preparations for the exercise, the workers said they felt abandoned after contributing to its success.
Efforts to reach OGSIEC officials for a response on the issue proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
The press Officer for the commission,Mrs Richard Musa had yet to respond to the message sent to her as of the time of filing this report.
