The Ogun State chapter of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria has congratulated Sweet 107.1 FM on its 10th anniversary, describing the milestone as a reflection of resilience, innovation and sustained commitment to quality broadcasting.
In a statement signed by the state Chairman, Olalekan Shoyinka, and released by the Publicity Secretary, Olusoji Akindiya, the association commended the proprietor, Olugbenga Obadara, Executive Director, Eddy Aina, and the station’s management and staff for what it called a decade of impactful service.
FIBAN described the station as Nigeria’s pioneer leadership and entrepreneurship-focused radio platform, noting that its establishment marked a turning point in the broadcasting landscape in Ogun State.
The association said the station had, over the years, distinguished itself through innovative programming, capacity building and the promotion of leadership and entrepreneurial values.
It particularly commended the outlet for providing opportunities for freelance and independent broadcasters to develop and showcase their talents at a time when access to broadcast platforms was limited.
According to the statement, many practitioners who benefited from the platform have grown into notable voices within the media industry.
“Sweet 107.1FM opened the airwaves to many broadcasters who previously faced marginalisation and limited opportunities. Its emergence was, in many ways, a form of liberation for independent practitioners,” the statement read.
FIBAN also acknowledged what it described as the station’s role in creating an inclusive and mutually beneficial media ecosystem that has continued to thrive over the years.
The association, which identified itself as a critical stakeholder in the station’s growth, expressed appreciation for the opportunities extended to its members, especially during the early years of operation.
While noting that the past decade posed significant challenges for media organisations,
FIBAN said the station had demonstrated resilience, surviving difficulties that forced many outlets out of operation.
It attributed this stability in part to the leadership of Aina, whose experience and direction, it said, had been instrumental in sustaining the station.
The group also praised Obadara for investing in a media platform focused on leadership discourse and entrepreneurship, saying the initiative had contributed to societal development.
FIBAN urged the station to sustain professionalism, ethical standards and innovation in its programming as it enters a new decade.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the station to advance broadcasting and support media practitioners in the state.
“Sweet 107.1FM has set a standard in the industry. We encourage the management to remain steadfast in delivering quality content that informs, educates and inspires the public,” the statement added.
