Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has charged the newly installed Anwa of Alagbe, Oba Joseph Iroko, and residents of the community to take the lead in attracting development and protecting investments in the area.
A
biodun gave the charge on Thursday during the installation and presentation of the staff of office to Iroko as the new monarch of Alagbe in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Rotimiolu Akinlesi, the governor said community cooperation remained critical to sustaining investments and advancing development across Ogun.
He urged the monarch and residents to support government programmes and avoid activities capable of frustrating development initiatives in the state.
Abiodun said traditional institutions and community leaders had important roles to play in mobilising residents, maintaining peace and creating an environment conducive to development.
The governor’s charge came as stakeholders urged the new monarch to use his position to unite Alagbe indigenes at home and in the diaspora and leverage the unity to attract projects to the community.
The Executive Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Theophilus Olorode, commended Abiodun for what he described as his commitment to peace, unity and the strengthening of traditional institutions.
Olorode urged the new monarch to approach his reign with humility and lead the people with wisdom, justice and a clear vision for the development of Alagbe.
Accepting the staff of office, Oba Iroko thanked the governor for ensuring what he described as justice throughout the selection process.
The monarch pledged to support the administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda while calling on Alagbe indigenes to close ranks and work collectively for the progress of the community.
He promised to discharge his responsibilities with fairness, equity and the fear of God.
Two community stakeholders, Cosmas Kehinde and Samuel Ajayi, also congratulated the monarch and urged him to deploy the influence of the traditional institution to unite the people.
They specifically called on the new Anwa to build stronger links between Alagbe indigenes within Nigeria and those in the diaspora to attract government and private-sector development projects to the community and its environs.
The installation marks a new phase for the traditional institution in Alagbe, with stakeholders expecting the new monarch to combine traditional leadership with active community mobilisation for infrastructure, investment and other development initiatives.
