A man identified as Tajudeen Yekini has allegedly killed his wife, Tioyin Edunjobi, at their residence in Ogungbade village, near Ayerose, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10:30pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with the couple’s son said to have witnessed the incident and raised the alarm.
Neighbours reportedly rushed to the apartment following the alarm and found Edunjobi lying motionless.
The police were subsequently alerted, prompting operatives from the Kemta Police Station to visit the scene.
A police source said detectives evacuated the woman’s body and deposited it at a mortuary, while the husband was taken into custody.
“Detectives from the station visited the scene, evacuated the body and deposited it at the mortuary. The suspect is currently in police custody. Investigation is ongoing,” the source said.
The motive for the alleged killing was not immediately established.
The incident came barely 24 hours after another suspected domestic violence case in Ibogun Akinode community, also in Ogun State, where a man, identified as Odukoya Bidemi, allegedly killed his wife, Odukoya Adenike, during an argument.
According to police sources, the incident was reported around 2am on August 31, 2026.
Bidemi allegedly assaulted his wife during the disagreement, which reportedly degenerated into a physical confrontation.
Adenike subsequently died from injuries sustained during the incident.
Following the report, detectives from the Ibogun Police Division reportedly visited the scene, while the woman’s remains were evacuated and deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
The police said Bidemi fled after allegedly realising the seriousness of the incident.
The source said information later reached the police that the suspect had been involved in a fatal road accident at Iyana Coker Bus Stop, along the Ifo axis, while fleeing.
“He was involved in a fatal motor vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident at Iyana Coker Bus Stop, via Ifo, and died on the spot,” the source said.
Detectives subsequently visited the morgue where the body from the accident had been deposited.
Photographs were reportedly taken to establish the identity of the deceased, after which the police confirmed that the body belonged to Bidemi, who had earlier been accused of killing his wife.
Meanwhile, the family of Adenike has reportedly approached the police to request the release of her remains for burial.
