The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has commenced the profiling and repatriation process for 24 irregular immigrants, following the arrest of an additional five (5) individuals in swift crackdown operation.
According to security sources, the initial group of 19 immigrants comprising 12 males and seven females aged between 21 and 42 were arrested in a joint taskforce operation on June 9, 2026, by officers on tactical operations in Ogun State and presently undergoing further investigation and statutory action in NIS custody.
The 19 irregular immigrants were cornered by a sister agency operatives following a distress call from alert community leaders in Idona. The locals had raised the alarm over the arrival of two buses conveying unknown foreign nationals into their neighborhood under suspicious circumstances.
In a further boost to the joint-agency security operations in the state, today, June 10, 2026, five irregular immigrants consisting of 3 Ivorians and 2 Togolese were intercepted.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the first group of 19 had recently relocated from the Mowe axis of Ogun State.
During interrogation, one of the immigrants, identified as 28-year-old Divine Kweku, claimed the group had migrated to the Idona community to market a health and wellness product known as the Amezcua Harmonized Energy Bio Disc 3. Kweku further alleged that their accommodation was facilitated by a local collaborator identified in conjunction with a house agent within the community.
The newly arrived five immigrants were arrested in joint operation and NIS Ogun Command has made efforts to establish their migration routes, local facilitators, and motives.
Upon taking custody of all 24 irregular immigrants, the Ogun State Command of the NIS immediately initiated comprehensive profiling, biometric capturing, and documentation, which confirmed their irregular status.
The command used the opportunity to sensitise the foreign nationals on the legal requirements of residency, the implications of violating host-country laws, and the proper channels for migration, emphasizing that Nigeria welcomes legitimate visitors but will not tolerate breaches of its sovereignty or immigration laws.
Confirming the development, Comptroller Olufunke Odusote stated that the verification of the immigrants’ identities, nationalities, travel documents, and status was strictly carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Immigration Act, 2015 (as amended).
Odusote said, “Our findings indicate that the individuals entered and remained within the country in circumstances violating our immigration laws. Investigations are being concluded to determine the final appropriate administrative measures.”
The Comptroller further revealed that the command has already set administrative machinery in motion to return the immigrants to their home countries upon conclusion of investigations and completion of all statutory procedures in accordance with the law,” Odusote added. Comptroller Odusote also emphasized on the need for the citizens of Ogun State to collobrate with security agencies by “saying something when they see something”
The NIS boss assured the public that the command would maintain close collaboration with other sister security agencies and intelligence units to prevent security breaches and safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation.
