In response to allegations of land grabbing leveled against him by a physically challenged farmer, Babatunde Akeem, the Olu of Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Abdul Fatai Akamo, has vehemently denied the claims, emphasizing his commitment to upholding the law and serving his community.
During a press conference held to mark his 21st coronation anniversary, Oba Akamo addressed the viral accusations, stating unequivocally that he has never unlawfully seized anyone’s land.
Rather, he asserted that he has consistently allocated land to individuals within his domain. “I have never sold half a plot of land to anyone; instead, I have granted over 20 to 30 acres of land.
“I abide by the constitution, hence I possess Certificates of Occupancy for all my properties, including the palace grounds,” the monarch affirmed.
Regarding the origin of his land titles, Oba Akamo disclosed that he recently renewed his Certificate of Occupancy, initially obtained in 1982 during the tenure of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
He underscored the legality of his land holdings, reinforcing his adherence to due process.
Turning to the upcoming celebrations of his 21st coronation anniversary, themed “Grace, Leadership, and Community,” Oba Akamo clarified that the event is not merely a commemoration of personal achievements but a platform to give back to society.
Highlighting his philanthropic agenda, he outlined plans for substantial contributions to community institutions such as Ibara Correctional Centre, Sacred Heart Hospital Lantoro, State Hospital Ijaye, Stella Obasanjo Orphanage Home, and DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his statewide development initiatives, Oba Akamo rebutted claims by some Egba Chiefs of neglect, asserting that the governor has fostered inclusive growth across Ogun State, including Egbaland.
He cited infrastructure projects like the Dry Sea Port, set to commence operations within the next three months, as evidence of the governor’s commitment to regional progress.
Commenting on national security challenges, particularly ritual killings and kidnappings, Oba Akamo lamented the diminished authority of traditional rulers compared to previous generations.
He acknowledged the shift of power to political leaders while reaffirming his dedication to employing traditional methods to combat societal ills.
“As grassroots leaders, we continue to strive for societal order through our cultural practices,” he affirmed.
Oba Akamo urged unity and cooperation among leaders at all levels to address contemporary challenges effectively.
“Times have changed, but our commitment to community welfare remains steadfast,” he concluded.
