The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State in the 2023 election, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has been conferred with the prestigious title of Asiwaju of Odogbolu.

The installation ceremony took place on Thursday at the palace of the Alaye of Odogbolu in Ogun State, drawing dignitaries, royal fathers, political leaders, and members of the National and State Assemblies.

In a ceremony marked by cultural pageantry and tradition, Oba Onagoruwa, the Alaye of Odogbolu, bestowed the chieftaincy title on Adebutu, citing the legacy of his mother, a revered figure in Odogbolu, whose contributions to the community continue to serve as a reference point.

The monarch lauded Adebutu’s philanthropic efforts, noting the positive impact his social investments have had on both the elderly and youth within the community.

“Your mother’s legacy in Odogbolu has set a standard of excellence,” Oba Onagoruwa declared.

“Through your community development initiatives, you have enhanced the lives of many, especially the vulnerable in our society.”

The royal father, with blessings from other assembled monarchs, prayed for the new Asiwaju and his wife, urging him to continue to uphold his family’s tradition of service and unity.

In his response, Adebutu expressed deep gratitude to the Alaye of Odogbolu and the Alaye-in-Council, describing the chieftaincy title as a call to continue his family’s heritage of community development. Reflecting on his grandfather, Pa Clement, the original Asiwaju of Odogbolu, Adebutu committed to honouring and expanding his family’s contributions to the land.

“I am privileged to be called to continue this honourable lineage,” Adebutu stated.

“With this title, my family and I are determined to further the welfare of Odogbolu. We carry the spirit of our mother and the commitment of our forebears.”

Addressing his plans for youth and elderly welfare in Odogbolu, Adebutu underscored his dedication to vocational training, emphasizing the need for young people to attain economic independence.

“I believe we must create prosperity,” Adebutu said, “because without resources, hunger is inevitable. My focus is to establish vocational centres where young people can learn skills that enable self-sufficiency and empowerment.”

Adebutu shared examples of his commitment to youth empowerment, mentioning his investments in agricultural projects and small businesses.

He noted that some young people he had mentored in cocoa farming and animal husbandry have achieved financial independence, with a few even becoming millionaires.

Adebutu encouraged the youth to view opportunities at home as viable alternatives to emigrating abroad.

“The funds used to pursue uncertain opportunities overseas could yield better results here,” he advised.

“With guidance and a productive mindset, young people in Ogun State can turn their villages and small towns into centers of innovation and prosperity.”
