The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, identified as Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as Oki-Ocean, over the alleged murder of a 61-year-old retired staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, whose decomposing body was discovered in her Abeokuta residence eight months ago.
The suspect was reportedly arrested on October 19, 2026, following months of investigation into the death of the retired teacher, whose body was found in the toilet of her home at Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 28, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the police, the deceased who was said to have worked as a confidential secretary with the board before he retired, was discovered dead a day after reportedly returning from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
The circumstances surrounding her death prompted further investigation, leading to the transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The police said preliminary findings indicated that the retired SUBEB staff was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
Ayinde reportedly confessed to the killing during interrogation, allegedly linking the incident to a financial disagreement between him and the deceased.
The police statement said the suspect claimed that he had entrusted N3.45m to the victim for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him N1.5m to purchase another vehicle.
The statement, however, did not establish the precise sequence of events that allegedly led to the killing or whether the money had been recovered.
“The suspect reportedly confessed to the killing and linked the incident to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming that he had entrusted N3,450,000 to her for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him N1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle,” the statement read.
The command said detectives were still investigating the suspect’s account to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and corroborate the claims made during interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the investigation for their persistence and professionalism, describing the arrest as a breakthrough in the case.
Ojajuni reiterated the command’s commitment to investigating serious crimes and ensuring that suspects were brought before the appropriate authorities.
The police also urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and report suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the relevant authorities.
The command added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
