The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ogun State Branch, held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday at its temporary office in Abeokuta, calling for increased government recognition and support for its humanitarian activities.
The event, attended by dignitaries from the branch and neighbouring divisions, highlighted the society’s achievements and outlined strategic goals for the coming year.
Key attendees included the Ogun State Branch Chairman, Dr. Jide Ibrahim Bello; Vice Chairman, Instructor Alhaji Olatoye; a National Officer, Inspector Yinka Fashina; Branch Secretary, Mr. Ezekiel Taiwo, and other officials such as Inspector Bola Bayo Solarin and Instructor Alade Segun.
In his address, Dr. Bello expressed gratitude to the society’s executives, divisional coordinators, and grassroots volunteers for their unwavering commitment to humanitarian service.
He emphasized the need to continue alleviating suffering, restoring hope, and serving humanity.
Bello also unveiled the society’s five strategic goals for 2025, which include: Strengthening Nigeria’s unity, setting ambitious targets, embracing innovation, engaging more youths and prioritizing volunteer welfare.
“Bello stated “as we embark on this journey, let us remember that our purpose is to alleviate suffering and serve humanity.”
Branch Secretary, Mr. Ezekiel Taiwo, who presented the 2024 Annual Secretariat Report, said the society’s partnerships with media organizations to amplify its humanitarian efforts.
He also highlighted training programs conducted for students, including initiatives at Babcock University, to foster a culture of volunteerism among youths.
“Purely, we are humanitarians. As an NGO, we relentlessly serve the community,” Taiwo said while recounting the society’s impact in responding to emergencies and supporting vulnerable populations.
The meeting concluded with goodwill messages from prominent members, followed by a donation drive where members contributed resources to further the organization’s mission.
The Nigerian Red Cross Society in Ogun State reaffirmed its dedication to selfless service, calling on the government and other stakeholders to recognize and support its efforts to promote humanitarian values in the state.
