The recently concluded Ogun Peace Summit, held between April 29th and 30th, 2024, at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta, has sparked a new wave of hope for peace and security in Ogun State, Nigeria.

Organised by the Peace Initiative Network, under the leadership of Dr. Olufemi Sodipo, the summit brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including state government officials, law enforcement agencies, community development associations, people with disabilities, media, and non-governmental organisations.

The summit, which addressed the pressing security challenges facing Ogun State, highlighted the necessity for collective action and collaboration among all stakeholders.

Keynote speakers emphasised  the shared responsibility in ensuring the safety and security of the state, underscoring the vital role of religion in fostering peace and advocating for interfaith dialogue.

Discussions also shed light on the need for community involvement in conflict resolution, recognizing it as a pivotal aspect of sustainable peace-building efforts.

Panel discussions provided a platform for stakeholders to delve into the intricate challenges faced by various communities across the state. Issues such as youth involvement in crime, infrastructural deficiencies, and communication barriers were thoroughly examined, with participants offering insightful perspectives and potential solutions.

As a result of the summit, a series of resolutions were formulated to address the multifaceted challenges identified.

These resolutions include a commitment to enhance interfaith dialogue to promote understanding and tolerance among different religious groups.

Additionally, there was a pledge to prioritise infrastructure development, recognizing it as a crucial component in addressing socio-economic disparities and fostering community resilience.

Furthermore, stakeholders vowed to involve communities in empowering youth for positive change, recognizing the pivotal role young people play in shaping the future of the state.

By engaging youth in constructive activities and providing them with opportunities for personal and professional growth, stakeholders aim to steer them away from crime and violence, towards a path of productivity and prosperity.

The summit concluded with a resounding commitment from all stakeholders to collaborate and work tirelessly towards ensuring peace and security in Ogun State.

The Peace Initiative Network expressed gratitude to all participants for their invaluable contributions and pledged to continue fostering dialogue and collective action in the pursuit of lasting peace.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that with a renewed sense of purpose and determination, stakeholders are poised to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for the people of Ogun State
