Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has carried out another reshuffle of his cabinet, redeploying four commissioners in what has become the fourth major adjustment to his administration’s team in 2026.
The latest changes, which take immediate effect, were announced on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, in a statement issued in Benin City.
The governor moved commissioners overseeing the Ministries of Water Resources, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Communications and Digital Economy, and Oil and Gas Resources.
Under the new arrangement, Dr Felix Ehiguese Akhabue, who previously headed the Ministry of Water Resources, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Barrister Vincent Osas Uwadiae, formerly the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, will now oversee the Ministry of Water Resources.
Similarly, Hon. Andrew Momodu has been moved from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy back to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources, while Prof. Omorodion Ikponmwosa, who had been in charge of Oil and Gas Resources, has been redeployed to Communications and Digital Economy.
Ikhilor said the latest redeployment was part of the administration’s effort to strengthen governance, improve service delivery and enhance efficiency in the running of the state.
He said the governor expected the affected commissioners to deploy their experience and expertise to their new portfolios and remain committed to the administration’s SHINE Agenda for the sustainable development of Edo State.
The latest shake-up adds to a series of changes made by Okpebholo since the beginning of 2026, signalling continued efforts by the administration to reposition its cabinet and align officials with its policy priorities.
On January 30, the governor redeployed his then Chief of Staff, Gani Audu, to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources as commissioner-designate.
On April 6, Felix Akhabue, who had been Commissioner for Works, was moved to the Ministry of Water Resources, leaving the Works Ministry under the supervision of a permanent secretary.
The administration also reinstated Prof. Ikponmwosa in August after his suspension in July and subsequently redeployed him to the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources.
With Saturday’s announcement, four commissioners have again changed portfolios within the state executive council.
The frequency of the adjustments comes as Edo’s political and administrative activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, although the government’s stated reason for the latest move is to improve administrative effectiveness and service delivery.
The governor, according to the SSG, charged the commissioners to justify their redeployment by bringing their expertise to bear on the responsibilities of their new ministries.
